Tucana Coffee: Tasty Treats and Tropical Vibes

Nestled in the heart of Dundas St West, is Tucana Coffee, you can’t miss it, it’s the shop that's bright purple!
The tropical theme is continued inside with floral wallpaper creating a feature wall behind the coffee bar. This mainly take away coffee shop has served the community for 7+ years, and is a staple for locals and passers-by alike. The interior is small, with the coffee bar being the main attraction. A wall dedicated to their intimate retail sections where Toronto and Canada based coffee roasters are the highlighted with Two Cats Coffee, Java Roasters and Pilot Coffee to name a few.
Previous owner and operator, Tanille Clarke graduated from the Pilot Coffee Roasters training program - (owned by a couple, one being from New Zealand) - so it's easy to see where the quality and consistency of the coffee comes from.
My iced americano with a dash of milk ($4.80 - iced makes it 50c extra) was just what was needed on this particularly steamy Toronto day. My partner tried the Desert Pear lemonade ($6.05) which was a well balanced combination of sweet and tart and had a glorious pink hue to it (a plus in my books). This drink is part of their summer edition drinks which also includes a watermelon refresher and lavender lemonade.
The cafe has recently changed hands and has decided to update their food offering to include items ‘traditional cafes don’t offer’ such as Jamaican patties alongside the traditional pastries and cookies you find in most places.
If you find yourself in this neighbourhood on a Saturday morning, heres what I suggest you do: First things first, head to The Federal and put your name down on the waitlist, there's always a waitlist but I guarantee it's worth it. Next, head over the road to Tucana for an oat or soy flat white ($6.22/ $4.80) and enjoy that while you wait for your name to be called. Head back over to The Fed to gorge on the Golden Standard sandwich with kale (best breakfast sandwich in the city if you ask me, but their coffee is diner style, you’ve been warned) and maybe a sneaky mimosa - Perfection!
